Masturbation and me

Masturbation is a great way to explore your own body, relieve stress, and ease period cramps. It is NOT dirty or shameful.

There’s no right age to start masturbating. Some people will start when they are young, and others when they’re older. Some people may not masturbate at all, and that’s okay too.

There are a number of different ways to masturbate. Some people will use their fingers/hands, a pillow, or sex toys. It’s all about experimenting and checking in with yourself and how you feel.

While there is no shame in masturbating, it’s important to know that masturbation is something personal and private so it’s best kept to yourself. Your bedroom might be a good place to masturbate if you know you will have privacy there.

Did you know? It is a myth that masturbating is not good for you and can harm your body. Masturbation won’t affect fertility or make you run out of sperm, and it can help to reduce spontaneous erections.

How do you feel about masturbating?

Sometimes people can feel anxious or unsure about masturbation, especially if it is considered taboo in their culture and/or religion. Be kind to yourself.

If you choose to masturbate, you may find that some difficult feelings come up for you afterwards. Give yourself time and space to process how you feel. Journaling can be a good way to sort through how we feel sometimes. It can help to remind yourself too that masturbation is normal and healthy.
