Concerned about someone else’s safety?

Whether you have witnessed another person being bullied online, or have seen them posting or sharing mean or negative content about themselves, there are things you can do to help keep them safe.

Check out these tips from Netsafe:

If you see someone being bullied online, you can report the problem anonymously to the website or app where the bullying is happening. You can also support the person being targeted by:

  • Asking if they’re okay: It can help the person being bullied to feel less isolated which can lessen the impacts of bullying
  • Advising them not to reply: Tell them not to reply or respond to any messages or make contact with the person bullying them.
  • Saving evidence: Encourage them to save the messages and take screenshots of website and chat abuse.
  • Reporting it: If the online bullying is happening on a social media site, encourage them to report it as abuse
  • Getting help: Let them know Netsafe can tell them if there’s anything they can do to stop the abuse and stay safe
