Let's go Beyond the Birds and Bees, Aotearoa!

In 2021, rangatahi (young people) across Aotearoa told us they wanted more Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE). So, a team of researchers and kaiako (educators) started working with rangatahi to create a free one-stop site that opens up the kōrero about everything to do with relationships, gender and sexuality and sex. We started with an app that young people could download. However, young people kept telling us that it was parents/whānau who really needed the information. We then created a website for them to learn more about why it’s important to have these discussions, with tips and tricks to make it a bit easier. We hope this space will continue to develop as people across the motu tell us what they want added to the site. Now there is a space for everyone to get involved and learn something!

We know that educators are always looking for new ideas to facilitate great lessons. Young people told us they want to learn more about how to navigate healthy relationships. They also want the opportunity to discuss the realities of their world. That’s why we are including some lesson ideas and corresponding slides designed with educators and rangatahi.
